Publicado: 2019.08.16. Trump's attack on China pushes gold up
US President Donald Trump said on his Twitter that he plans to introduce additional customs duties on Chinese goods. After this news, the price of gold reached the mark of 1300 euros - for the first time since 2012.
On Thursday evening, the price of gold reached a level of 1300 euros per ounce - this was the first time since 2012. Once again, Donald Trump's Twitter message caused concern in the financial markets. The US President again began to threaten China with the introduction of the next customs duties, while condemning the Chinese partners that they deliberately delay the process of signing a trade agreement between the two countries.
In his message, Trump said the following: “Our representatives have recently returned from China, where they held constructive negotiations on an upcoming trade agreement. We believed that three months ago we had already agreed to sign a trade agreement. But as it turned out, just before its signing, Beijing decided to suddenly revise the terms of the trade agreement. ”
For this reason, Trump has threatened China to introduce from September 1 additional customs duties on Chinese goods in the amount of 10% in the amount of 300 billion dollars. At the same time, this does not include those goods that are already subject to duties in the amount of 25% in the amount of $ 250 billion.
According to the American economist Peter Schiff, the introduction of customs duties on Chinese imports in the United States is directed not only against China, but also is a message to the Federal Reserve. Thus, he hints at a continued decline in interest rates. Trump would also like the Fed to pay attention to the situation in the global economy, where the United States must remain competitive with its goods and services.
