As it became known recently, in June this year the Central Bank of Russia increased its reserves of gold by almost 19 tons. Due to the recent increase in gold prices, the value of the gold reserves of the Russian Federation exceeded $ 100 billion.
As previously reported, the Central Bank of Russia for several years regularly increases the gold reserves of the state. According to published data as of June 30, 2019, Russia's international reserves increased to $ 518.35 billion. Compared with the previous month, growth was + 4.7% ($ 23.13 billion).
As for the gold reserves of Russia, they currently amount to 71 million ounces, which corresponds to 2.208.34 tons. It turns out that in June of this year the Central Bank of the Russian Federation bought another 600.000 ounces (18.66 tons). It was gold that contributed to the growth in the value of Russia's total international reserves, since gold in the amount of $ 100.27 billion is in the Central Bank’s vault, that is, thanks to rising world prices, the value of Russia's gold reserves increased by + 11.55% ($ 10.39 billion) compared with the previous month.
It is also worth saying that the share of gold in Russia's total international reserves increased from 18.14% in May to 19.34% in June. In total, since the beginning of 2019, the Central Bank of Russia has bought for reserves 96.41 tons of yellow precious metal, which corresponds to 3.1 million ounces. Basically, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation buys gold for reserves from Russian gold mining companies, which due to international sanctions cannot sell it to other countries.
