The mind of a gold miner always excites the dream of big gold nuggets.
It is not difficult to imagine why nuggets are so desirable for those who hunt them, if we take into account the size of some specimens: such blocks as the famous “Desired Stranger” (weighing 2284 ounces - 71.1 kg), nugget “Desired” ( 2195 ounces - 68.4 kg), the Holtermann plate (7560 ounces - 235.5 kg), as well as Blanche Barkley (1743 ounces - 54.3 kg). And let's not forget about the recently found in Brazil "Goliath" weighing 1622 ounces - 50.5 kg.
There was a persistent belief that at the beginning of the era of gold mining in Australian Victoria (19th century) a nugget was found by a certain Chinese, able to compete with the “Desired Stranger” itself. For a long time it was claimed that a large group of people living on the other side of the planet bought this “monster”. However, the weight of this nugget was subsequently estimated at just over 1000 ounces - 31 kg.
Many wonderful finds have been made in other parts of the world. Large nuggets have been found in South Africa, Russia, Brazil, New Guinea, USA. And although they are not so great, compared with Australian specimens, their ability to ignite the imagination is no less.
